Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
About: This is a story about Naomi Porter and how she had the “perfect” life. Until she falls, hits her head, and gets amnesia. She starts to see how this perfect life she had wasn’t so perfect. She realizes that she has to choose whether or not she wants things to change.
What I Liked: Even though the amnesia card has been played a lot, I like the way it was used in this story. Naomi wakes up in the hospital with no clue what happened to her and she has no memory of the past few years. When she goes back her home and school life, she starts to wonder why she has become the person she is. She slowly realizes that it is always better to be yourself instead of what others expect you to be. It’s interesting to see the self-discovery that Naomi goes through and how true friends will be there through the hard times.
